What's New
As soon as the countdown is finished, people begin spouting off how they’re going to change in the
upcoming year. We all know the person who has about fifteen resolutions and is completely confident
that they will follow through with every single one of them. Or the person who is wise in picking just one
resolution, but has already failed at it at least once or maybe twice. And of course, there’s always the
person who claims they don’t believe in resolutions because “they are just always bettering
themselves”. Regardless, of the individual, it seems there are always some common threads between
resolutions and how people go about achieving them.
The most typical resolutions throughout the world are: losing weight/eating healthier, making
better financial decisions, and to spend more time with friends and family. I talked to different people
within our office and their resolutions were similar as well. A few people also wanted to eat healthier or
drink more water (although one of them embarrassingly admitted they had caved to eat Portillo’s on
January 2nd.) Others hope to become more positive or more organized. No matter what the resolution is
there are some key things you can do to actually follow through with it this year!
When choosing resolutions, first make sure it is very personal and specific. It will be a lot easier
to stay motivated if it is truly something you want to do instead of just something you “should” be
doing. Make sure you don’t take on more than you can handle; focus on one-three goals that are
realistic. Remember that these are new year’s resolutions and that any true progress will take time. That
being said, it is very important to make time for your goals. Plan out specific times throughout your day
or week to work on your goal. Share your goals with friends and family; let them help keep you
accountable, but also share in the accomplishments!
